10 Things To Consider When Planning Your Wedding - Let's Count Them Down!

1. Budgeting: Finding the Sweet Spot

Ah, the dreaded budget. But here's the thing: it's all about balance, baby! If you're planning this magical day without a wedding planner, get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. This is your biggest event to plan, so grab your favorite pen and jot down how much you’re willing to spend—and stick to that number like it's your wedding vows! Start with a simple “wants & needs” list. Don’t forget the essentials: venue, catering, attire, photographer, DJ, flowers, and decor.

If your budget’s between $5k-$15k, get creative! Tap into the power of your talented friends and family—maybe someone’s a cake-baking wizard or a photographer with an eye for beauty. If you can make those small savings here and there, you’re already heading toward a frugal but fabulous wedding. Please, if you are planning on doing a DYI bouquet, please reconsider and get real flowers. You can get nice roses at Costco and go from there. Silk and plastic flowers is not where you want to try and save money on your wedding day.

2. Do Your Research!

Alright, if you’re going DIY on the planner, it’s time to turn into a wedding detective. Hunt down the best photographers, DJs, florists, and caterers in your area. Don’t be shy—squeeze in some research during your lunch break or while you’re hanging with your besties. Pop by those vendors, chat them up, ask for their business cards, and take notes. You’ll be so glad you did!

And, pro tip: Ask for references. It’ll help you feel even more confident when you’re booking the pros for your big day. We can only highly recommend hiring a professional to plan your wedding day or at least consider a day of planner. You will find your self far less stressed out.

3. Guest List Goals

Know how many guests you’re inviting before you pick the venue. Sounds obvious, but trust us, it’ll save you so much hassle. You want to make sure there’s enough room for the people you love, the tables, the food, the dancing—everything! A good rule of thumb? Allow 25-30 square feet per guest. Trust us, it’ll make the planning go smoother.

4. Location, Location, Location

Choosing the perfect venue? It’s a big deal, so make it count! You might be torn between rustic barns, sleek ballrooms, or dreamy outdoor spots. But before you even start the search, know your budget and guest list. This will narrow down the options and help you decide where the magic happens. We have a ton of venues that we have written reviews on our blog pages. Not sure how to narrow it down? Give us a call or text Tom anytime. 714-394-4263.

5. What’s Cooking?

Once the budget and guest count are locked in, it’s time to talk about everyone's favorite part—THE FOOD! Does your venue offer catering? If so, you’re in luck! You get to plan a menu with their chefs and skip the search for outside caterers.

But if not, dive into your local wedding caterers, check out their reviews, and go for options that’ll keep your guests’ taste buds dancing. Even consider your favorite restaurant as an option. You know what you love there and it is a great way to share a favorite with your guests.

6. Let’s Talk Tunes

Nothing makes or breaks a wedding like the music, so choose wisely! Once you’ve hired your band or DJ, come prepared with a personalized playlist. List the songs you want, and more importantly, the ones you don’t want. This is your party—make it your soundtrack. Remember, you will remember your wedding through your photos. Your guest will remember it through your DJ.

7. Plan B: Because Sh!t Happens

Dreaming of an outdoor ceremony or reception? Here’s your next must-do: ask the venue about backup plans. What if it rains or gets too hot? Some venues have indoor spaces ready to save the day, but others might not. Don’t let the weather rain on your parade—be ready for anything!

8. Timeline: It’s All About the Flow

Creating a wedding timeline is like crafting the perfect playlist—each moment needs to flow just right. Think about the big stuff: when the ceremony starts, how long your cocktail hour will be, and when dinner will be served. But don’t forget the little moments—like when you’re slipping into your dress, when you’ll be doing your first look, or when you can take a breather and sneak in some alone time with your partner. It might feel like a lot, but setting a timeline helps everyone stay on track and ensures you get to enjoy every minute of your day (without feeling rushed!). Even if you have a wedding coordinator, we highly recommend that you read this article and take advantage of our experiene on what work and what doesn't. Wedding Timeline

9. Wedding Favors: A Sweet Touch

Wedding favors don’t have to break the bank. In fact, the best ones often come from the heart. Consider personalized touches like custom cookies, little succulents, or fun keepsakes that speak to you and your partner's personalities. Not only will your guests appreciate the thoughtful gesture, but it’s a perfect way to add a personal flair to your big day. Plus, DIY favors can save you money and bring that extra level of charm! If this really doesn't tickle your fancy make sure you have a heart felt speach to give. Don't wing it. Place the same importance to this speech as you did to your vows.

10. Spa Day or Pre-Wedding Ritual

Before you dive into all the wedding madness, carve out some "me time." Whether it’s a relaxing spa day with your bridal crew, a peaceful solo retreat, or a quiet moment to yourself with a good book and a cup of tea—don’t forget to recharge. The stress of wedding planning can get overwhelming, but you’ve got to be in top form to enjoy the big day. So, book that facial, meditate in the morning sun, or just have a solo dance party in your living room—it’s all about staying grounded and staying excited!

Perfection? That’s a Myth.

At the end of the day, this is your wedding. No one is keeping score. Don’t overthink the little details; embrace the joy of planning and stay true to what feels right for you.
